Caring Congregation Committee

The CARING CONGREGATION COMMITTEE (CCC) is a committee that “isn’t.” Four years ago, we met once to discuss our purpose, and since that time, members volunteer to assist when their time warrants and the need is there. We “conduct all our business” by e mail send out by the chair person.

Our purpose is to offer care and concern for Beth El members. Besides the chairperson e mailing updates to the committee periodically, the one person who REALLY does the work, is our ‘scribe’ who sends out the CCC cards. For the past two years, this chairperson has been the very diligent Ellen Berenzweig. When advised, Ellen sends out cards for Speedy Recovery, Congratulations, Special Milestone Birthdays,, and cards of Sympathy. If a congregant doesn’t receive a card, it’s not because we don’t CARE, but because we’re not informed. The success of our Caring cards depends on our being advised when a card is necessary… “word of mouth” is MOST appreciated! Recipients of the cards are always happy to hear from our Congregational FAMILY during their joyous occasions, as well as their difficult times. A big thanks to Debbie in our Beth El office for her printing expertise of our ‘home made’ cards! (Prior to Ellen B., Eileen Pink was the person ‘behind the cards.”) Besides the CCC cards being sent out, our committee members are encouraged to send out their own cards or make a personal phone call to those in need.

The CCC has “cook ins” about 1-2 times a year and prepares and freezes casseroles to have available when a Beth El family is in need. During their free time, some CARING individuals make soup or bake, which is available when needed. We deliver these items during family illnesses and deaths. Again, we depend on fellow congregants and the Temple office to notify us of those in need. Special thanks to Michael Appleman for our printed CCC labels for our food deliveries.

When we are notified of congregants desiring visits, some of our committee members visit residents in nursing facilities and their homes. Additionally, when a congregant is in a bind and needs a ride for a doctor’s appointment, our CCC members have tried to assist.
