Committee Activities: The mission of the Beth-El Social Action Committee is Tikun Olam--Repairing the World--and we have various programs and activities to support that mission.Beth-El has an on-going relationship with deZavala Elementary School in Fort Worth to provide school supplies, computers, and tutors. We sponsor two blood drives each year in coordination with Carter BloodCare and Congregation Ahavath Sholom. In the past, members of our Congregation made blankets which were distributed to the Presbyterian Night Shelter and we regularly donate shoes, clothing, small household appliances, and non-perishable foods to the Night Shelter, Safe Haven for Women, Goodwill, and Tarrant Area Food Bank. Each year, we collect small bottles of soap and shampoo, lotion, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and brushes, and other comfort items and donate them to Hospice and Gladney Center for Adoption. Community-wide, we clean the banks of the Trinity River and participate in Habitat for Humanity projects. While synagogues, of course, do not endorse candidates or political parties, from time to time we help educate the congregation or community about issues relating to Israel and the Middle East or 'church-state' matters. We realize the need is great and resources are often limited, but we continuously search for areas in which we can help improve the lives of people in our community. If you would like to volunteer or have ideas where our efforts can best be served, please contact the Temple office at (817) 332-7141 or the Beth-El Social Action Chair, Michael Sankary, at (817) 244-7623.
